Welcome to the North Shore Beacon.

The Beacon is an independent source for local human-interest stories.

A free online magazine based in Port Stanley, North Shore Beacon is designed to appeal to your love of Elgin County’s dynamic shoreline communities.

The magazine editor, Joe Konecny, started the enterprise following his launching the Port Stanley Villager and serving as the Villager’s editor for two years. (Konecny and the Beacon, however, are not affiliated with the Villager, which is owned and operated by a company based in London.)

Born in Chatham and raised in McKay’s Corners, Konecny’s journalism background also includes the Toronto Sun, Woodstock Sentinel Review and Oshawa This Week.

Konecny’s vision is to offer the Beacon as an instrument of collaboration as Lake Erie communities work together to find common ground on the North Shore.

Recently, Konecny expanded the reach of his coverage by joining the Aylmer Express as a Local Journalism Initiative reporter. Some of his stories appear in the Beacon and on the pages of the Aylmer Express, ‘The Voice of East Elgin for 140 years’.
